Coconut oil

  • Cocos Nucifera, also known as Coconut oil, is obtained from the meat of the coconut palm fruit. (The U.S. gets most of its coconut oil from India).

  • Coconut oil is a high saturated oil, with 60% being a medium chain fatty acid. MCFA's are very beneficial for your skin and provide anti-inflammatory properties, as well as antibacterial properties.

Here at H.C we put organic coconut oil in most of our cold process soaps because it is so beneficial for dry, irritated skin. Putting coconut oil on our top epidermis (skin) layer helps rejuvenate cracked skin by providing key essential fatty lipids. (Lipids in our body absorb vitamins, make hormones and store energy etc...) On the other hand, if you suffer from oily, acne prone skin it is best to not put coconut oil on your face as it is considered to be very comedogenic, which means it has the potential to clog pores and cause breakouts.

If you are looking for oils that reduce unwanted pimples and blemishes, please read about Grapeseed oil, Hempseed oil or Jojoba oil on our blog.
